Hot rod

Hot rods are typically old, classic American cars with large engines modified for linear speed. The origin of the term "hot rod" is unclear. Roadsters were the cars of choice because they were light, were easy to modify, and could be bought for a low price. The term became commonplace in the 1930s or 1940s as the name of a car that had been "hopped up" by modifying the engine in various ways to achieve higher performance.

Ferrari 458

In Ferrari's first official announcement of the car, the 458 was described as the successor to the F430 but arising from an entirely new design, incorporating technologies developed from the company's experience in Formula 1.

Jaguar XKR-S GT

Aren't there just. First, in 2006, there was the XK, then the XKR arrived with a supercharger to partner the 5.0-litre V8, then along came the XKR-S with yet more power and control, now this, the XKR-S GT. Which is something altogether different.

New Jaguar F-Type

It's a cloudy, muggy, rainy day here in Mumbai, but we've got our own little ray of sunshine today – Jaguar's fabulous new F-Type. Now we already know this is a stunning sportscar, and looking at the spec sheet we can tell it’s going to be seriously quick too. Question is, how well does it work as a GT and a sportscar? And more importantly, how well will it work in Indian conditions? Will it be both useable on a regular basis as well as a hoot to drive when the opportunity arises? Those are the answers we are looking for during our first drive of this car on Indian soil.
The conditions the new F-Type has to face on Mumbai’s streets are nothing short of challenging. With our monsoon-damaged roads looking like they’ve recently been the recipients of a carpet bombing, and traffic at its snarly worst, this 488bhp rag top has its work cut out. There are a couple of areas in and around the island city where we will be able to give this car a brief workout, and we’ll be headed there as well. But enough perspective; now let’s dive straight into the car.

Jaguar C-X75

he Jaguar C-X75 prototype supercar won’t go into production, but Jaguar has released a new behind-the-scenes video that gives a tantalising glimpse of what might have been, and which also shows the extensive development work that went into creating the hybrid-powered supercar.
Jaguar unveiled the C-X75 concept car in 2010, and it eveloved from a design study to a fully working prototype in just two years. In that time, Jaguar and development partner Williams Advanced Engineering created an four-wheel drive, plug-in parallel hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) with Jaguar’s first carbon composite monocoque chassis.
The C-X75 has a combined power output of more than 850bhp and dvelops 738lb ft of torque. Its powertrain comines a 1.6-litre turbocharged and supercharged four-cylinder petrol engine plant that generates 502bhp with two electric motors – one for each axle – that give a further 385bhp.
Jaguar claims the C-X75 can accelerate from 0-100mph in less than six seconds, thanks in partly to a seven-speed automated transmission that with gearshifts that take less than 200 milliseconds. Top speed is expected to be about 220mph.

Despite its performance, Jaguar says the C-X75 can run for about 30 miles in pure electric vehicle mode, while overall CO2 emissions are less than 89g/km. Jaguar took the decision not to build a production version in 2012.
It’s a pity they scraped the project, we hope to see it again some day especially as it could have given real competition to the likes of Ferrari LaFerrari and McLaren P1!

XFR-S European Debut
The Jaguar XFR-S, the fastest and most powerful saloon in the company's history, makes its European debut at the Geneva Auto Salon today.
Using the same highly-acclaimed 550PS 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine as the  XKR-S, the new sports-saloon is capable of reaching 100km/h in 4.6 seconds from a standing start and can go on to an impressive 300km/h top speed.
On unveiling the XFR-S Adrian Hallmark commented: "This is the fastest and most powerful saloon Jaguar has ever produced, and today we're delighted to share its European debut with you. This is a car of incredible potency, with a visceral blend of power, driver involvement and control."

Jabbeke
In 1953, Jaguar's legendary test driver Norman Dewis drove a modified Jaguar XK120* to a new world record average speed over a flying mile of 172.4mph.
Sixty years later, on Saturday March 2nd 2013, Jaguar returned to Jabbeke** for another sprint test, this time with a new Jaguar F-TYPE V8S and 1988 Le Mans 24 hour race-winning driver Andy Wallace. With just two miles available to Wallace to explore the  F-TYPE's straight-line speed from a standing start, and bring it to a stop again, the car hit almost 180mph*** and achieved 0-62mph (0-100km/h) in an impressive 4.2 seconds.
Marking the return of Jaguar to the Belgian proving roads, Adrian Hallmark, Global Brand Director, said:"The original Jabbeke sprint runs marked the start of an exciting chapter in our history. The XK 120 combined seductive design and innovative technologies with incredible sporting performance, as Norman Dewis proved on that famous day in 1953.
"Those core elements of our DNA are embodied in the new Jaguar F-TYPE, and I can think of no more fitting way to pay tribute to the achievement of one of our most famous roadsters than to return to Jabbeke to celebrate the successful test and set a new Jaguar benchmark."
This celebratory event marked the beginning of an epic drive event in which classic Jaguar XK 120, C-type, D-type and E-type sports cars joined the new 495 PS F-TYPE in a 'Jaguar Bloodline' sports car convoy en route to Geneva, Switzerland, prior to this year's 2013 Auto Salon, where the new F-TYPE takes pride of place on the Jaguar stand.
Over the course of the journey from Jabbeke to Geneva, an identical F-TYPE V8 S to the one used for the speed run was driven the 519-miles (835km) by a specialist in frugal driving, recording an impressively low average fuel consumption of 35.6mpg (7.9l/100km).

2013 Jaguar XF

Jaguar's 2013 model year-mania continues with the XF series that gains a similar suite of updates to the larger XJ saloon that we told you about in a previous posting and then some more, including the introduction of the new Sportbrake that will start from £31,940 when it goes on sale in the UK later this year.
As with the XJ, the XF continues without any alterations to its design for the new model year, but with many changes under the hood.
The executive model's engine lineup is expanded with two new forced induction petrol powerplants, a 3.0-liter supercharged V6 delivering 335hp (340PS) and 450Nm (332 lb-ft) that replaces in some markets the naturally aspirated 5.0-litre V8, and a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four rated at 237hp (240PS) and 340Nm (251 lb-ft).
The 2.2-liter four-cylinder diesel range is now available in 161hp (163PS) and 197hp (200 PS) outputs with the latter replacing the existing 187hp (190PS) output engine.
These engines join the existing line-up of 3.0-litre V6 Turbodiesel and Supercharged 5.0-litre V8 petrols.
We should mention that not all engines will be available to all markets (i.e. the 2.0-liter turbo petrol in the UK), while the estate version of the XF will be offered at launch exclusively with diesel powerplants.
For 2013, Jaguar is also expanding the use of its new 8-speed automatic transmission with a start and stop system to all gasoline and diesel engines across the range improving emissions on the V6 Diesel engines by six per cent and on the supercharged V8 petrol by up to 11 percent.
The range topping 503hp (510PS) XFR can now be enhanced with an optionally available new Speed Pack that is equipped with revised engine and gearbox calibration, a new front aero splitter and a new rear wing. With this package, the XFR can reach an increased limited top speed of 174mph (280km/h) instead of 155km/h (250km/h).
Jaguar has also replaced the Bowers and Wilkins system with a new Meridian audio system.
As with the 2013 XJ, Jaguar is expected to release country-specific details on the XF in the coming months.
